Garage door window condensation is not a manufacturer defect even if they are dual pane. The good news is that your new garage door is doing what it’s suppose to be doing ~ keeping the cooler air out. Unfortunately, if the ventilation in the garage is not maintained throughout the winter, condensation may appear.
Condensation on garage door windows is a characteristic of a warm, humid garage and a cooler garage door surface due to a colder exterior temperature. In fact, it’s similar to the windows in your home. They too may form condensation because the temperature outside is cooler than the air inside of your home.
The Most Common Causes Of Condensation
-
difference in air temperature inside & outside of the garage, - a home with an attached garage may emit warm air into it,
-
wet or snowed covered vehicles,
-
moisture from an adjacent laundry area,
-
an old fridge or freezer that isn’t climate controlled, and lastly,
-
restricted air flow due to clutter in the garage.
Tips For Controlling Condensation
-
maintain proper garage ventilation,
-
do not idle a vehicle inside of the garage,
-
lower the garage air temperature during extreme cold weather conditions (for example, leave the garage door open a small amount or run a fan to circulate the air),
-
dry off wet vehicles after parking in the garage or, and lastly,
-
invest in a dehumidifier or heater.
Replace Your Garage Door
Condensation on the windows of your garage door is not always bad, however, it may impact your heating and cooling bill over time. If you see condensation building up between the panes of your garage door windows, it may be time for a replacement.
